BIRTH CONTROL PILLS FOR 11-YEAR-OLDS?

From my column in Sunday's New York Daily News:

In Maine, a school board voted 7-2 last week to make birth control pills and patches available to 11-year-old girls at their student health center.

I have an alternative:

If you know someone is having sex with an 11-year-old, you should 1) call 911, and then 2) call the child's parents.

In most states, sex with minors is a felony. And most people instinctively understand that if an older male is having sex with an 11-year-old girl, you have a problem that cannot be solved by a pill.
